Ashleys Second Chance

Ashley Stuart was your typical teenage girl. It was all about her and what she wanted. She was a very devoted friend to those who truly were the same to her.

Ashley was raised in a single parent home by her mother. She had a good life growing up. But, faced tough times growing up and made some bad choices that created obstacles for her future education. At a time while attending McQueen High School she lost interest and had no desire to receive her high school diploma. She wanted to give up, but no one would let her including her school counselor, vice principal, and her mother. Through her strength and perseverance, she overcame her obstacles and realized the importance of her education. It was at that time anyone who saw her potential gave her that second chance to do what needed to be done.

Ashley received her high school diploma and decided to fulfill her dreams and go to college to become a cosmetologist. It was at this time the realization was settling in that she had passed up the chance for scholarships that could have assisted her in her quest for higher education. Just a few short weeks later on June 25, 2007 Ashley lost her life in a senseless car accident.

Her mother Kris Stuart says “As a parent who came to the realization of how difficult it is for that child who does not have the perfect high school academic record to help them reach their goals with higher education, as well as being cheated out of watching my daughter reach her goals, I wanted to create a scholarship to honor my daughter, as well as being able to assist a child reach theirs by giving them that second chance that Ashley was given prior to losing her life.”
