Ashleys Second Chance

Ashley Stuart was your typical teenage girl. It was all about her and what she wanted. She was a very devoted friend to those who truly were the same to her.

Ashley was raised in a single parent home by her mother. She had a good life growing up. But, faced tough times growing up and made some bad choices that created obstacles for her future education. At a time while attending McQueen High School she lost interest and had no desire to receive her high school diploma. She wanted to give up, but no one would let her including her school counselor, vice principal, and her mother. Through her strength and perseverance, she overcame her obstacles and realized the importance of her education. It was at that time anyone who saw her potential gave her that second chance to do what needed to be done.

Ashley received her high school diploma and decided to fulfill her dreams and go to college to become a cosmetologist. It was at this time the realization was settling in that she had passed up the chance for scholarships that could have assisted her in her quest for higher education. Just a few short weeks later on June 25, 2007 Ashley lost her life in a senseless car accident.

Her mother Kris Stuart says “As a parent who came to the realization of how difficult it is for that child who does not have the perfect high school academic record to help them reach their goals with higher education, as well as being cheated out of watching my daughter reach her goals, I wanted to create a scholarship to honor my daughter, as well as being able to assist a child reach theirs by giving them that second chance that Ashley was given prior to losing her life.”

On Thursday October 25th 2007 from 4:30p till 9:00pm all Applebee’s Restaurant locations in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, and Lake Tahoe will donate 15% of all food sales to “Ashley’s Second Chance” scholarship fund. The idea of this fund is to help an area student fulfill their dreams of higher education and receive a much needed second chance at life. Donations will also be accepted that evening in care of “Ashley’s Second Chance”.

Participating Applebee’s Locations: Reno 4805 Kietzke Lane, Sparks 693 N McCarran Blvd, Carson City 3300 S Carson Street, and South Lake Tahoe 3987 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Just figures...

Sometimes its the small things that make you go huh! I'm not into clipping coupons or playing the Monopoly game at McDonalds...but I have been quite facinated with my sandwich card from Mr Pickles down the street from the radio station. Almost like getting assignments done for school...I would get my card punched everytime I went in for a sandwich. Well today was the day I was going to score my free sandwich...like a school kid I was thinking about it since I woke up this morning. After a late morning meeting it was time to collect my booty of meat, cheese, and bread. All excited I drive over to Mr. Pickles and ordered the all mother of sandwiches The WolfPack.(chicken breast, melted cheese on a dutch crunch bun) When I reached for my wallet and looked inside...the unthinkable happened...the sandwich card was gone and have no idea where it went. Needless to say I was heartbroken and handed over my credit card. To add insult to injury...the woman in front of me orders a turkey sandwich and gets it for free becuase they made too much for a party platter to go. I'm glad they didn't waste...but I was kicking myself for not ordering Turkey...^&**( it! Have a great weekend talk to you in the morning.

Club Plus Nightclub

Did you hear us talking about this new nightclub starting on Friday Night for plus size people...here's the specs!

OVERVIEW: Club Plus Life is dedicated to bringing quality nightlife to the greater Reno community that does not involve the stereotypes of a thinner crowd. The nightclub is designed to be size friendly, therefor giving all people the option to come into the nightclub without fear of feeling uncomfortable. The aim of the nightclub is for the plus sized community and those who like their company. But as said by the founders, everyone is welcome in their club and everyone should feel welcome.

HISTORY: Although the club is not yet opened, it does have a very rich history behind it. The founders and promoters of the nightclub has had many experiences with the plus size community and feel they are able to bring both a politically correct idea to the nightclub while still maintaining a fresh and stereotype free institution. The founders have said they were raised by weight challenged families and therefore knows of the problems one could face in this particular field.

The nightclub will make history itself. It is the first in Reno, and therefore is quite ground breaking. If successful, this nightclub will draw public attention and travelers from around the nation to see it. Most will find it an escape from social norms and will hopefully come to see it as a second home where they can be around friends who understand their situations. This is more than a nightclub, it’s a community.

EXPERTISE: The nightclub is standing on the established expertise of Cantina Los Tres Hombres in Victorian Square.

The founders of Plus Life have experience with the plus sized community and thereof knows how to work a sensitive angle to get people in the door without them feeling like this is a place that is for “fat people.” Their marketing strategies will help the public to feel at ease about the nightclub, and therefore their experience will help the nightclub thrive.

OPENING: The opening will be held October 19, 2007, and will feature a live DJ, door prizes and plenty of dancing. We are opening the doors at 9:30pm and will stay open as long as the party keeps up. Club Plus Life will be open every other Friday of the month and will occasionally have theme nights to keep up fresh atmosphere.

**Check it out and call us Monday with your thoughts

What country do we live in????

I have kept my mouth shut about this whole immigration mess...yes I said mess...and lets just leave it at that. I do have a problem when it comes to

the improper use of the American flag. It happened at a business on Wells...the business owner claims he had no idea it was wrong....PLEASE! Don't go to work, boycott if you wish, have a parade down Virginia Street and snarl traffic if you wish. This is America and you can do whatever you feel the need to do w/out hurting others and/or breaking the law. Flying another countries flag over the American flag does both. This has nothing to do with it being a Mexican flag...if you live/work in this country...this country is #1 and at the top of the pole. In many countries you can only fly that nations flag. A very upset Veteran removed both flags from the pole with one flag ....the American under his arm and the other was left on the ground. Again the business owner claims he didn't know this was wrong...I just think with everything that has happened in this past week....it's a little hard to believe this one. Talk to you in the morning.
